Harsh’s Career
Harsh began his career in computers and later in industry. He gained experience and exposure at companies such as Cisco and Siemens and is the author of a book on practical systems design. Harsh’s LinkedIn profile showcases his expertise in building products from the ground up, a key skill in computer engineering.
Preparation for Computer Engineering Majors
Harsh emphasized the importance of mentorship and mentorship in preparing for the computer engineering specialization. Entrance exams to engineering colleges, especially top ones like NSIT, can be challenging. Harsh noted that preparation and developing critical thinking skills starting in 10th grade are critical to success. He also recommends joining a coaching institute to get proper guidance and guidance.
NSIT Challenges and Preparation
Harsh admits that preparing for a BTech college, especially a reputed one like NSIT, can be daunting. The environment and competition are different from regular board exams. Engineering exams are mostly objective in nature and require different skills and approaches to problem solving. Harsh stressed the need for good teachers and mentors to help students understand the core concepts of physics, chemistry and mathematics. Time management also plays a vital role in balancing school and entrance exam preparation.
NSIT Experience and Internships
Harsh shared his positive experience at NSIT, where he met talented and motivated colleagues. He emphasized the importance of good teachers and exposure to different subjects, which helped him develop industry skills. Harsh also mentioned that he received a merit scholarship during his time at NSIT, which further motivated him to excel.
Transition to Cisco and Siemens
After graduation, Harsh secured an internship and later a job offer at Samsung. He then joined Cisco as a software engineer as part of a campus internship. Harsh’s web application development experience at Cisco gave him valuable insights into the software industry. Six years later, he moved to Siemens as a senior engineer in the field of electronic design automation. Harsh emphasizes that moving between industries and roles requires learning new concepts and staying current.
Advice to students and future plans
Harsh advises students to focus on core subjects and apply their knowledge in real-life industry scenarios. He recommends taking online courses to learn new technologies and explore different career options in the industry. Harsh also mentioned his book Handson System Design, which provides insights into distributed systems design. He is open to exploring new opportunities in the industry and is considering further study in related disciplines.
