Getting started with ScratchJr
Follow these simple steps to start your ScratchJr adventure:
- Open the ScratchJr application and click the Home button.
- Create a new project by selecting the New Project option.
- A blank page with a blue “+” symbol will appear in the upper left corner of the screen. This is the activity menu.
- First, select a new background from the thumbnails in the Scenery library.
- If you want to change a character in your project, click the “+” button and scroll through the character library to find the desired character.
- Double-click backgrounds and characters to remove or add them to your project.
Create event
Activities in ScratchJr require multiple steps. Here’s how to create an event:
- To move a character to a specific starting position, simply click on the character and drag it to the desired location on the screen.
- To program a character, use the color coordination buttons on the left side of the screen. Drag the desired blocks from the palette to the white canvas area.
- Connect the blocks together to ensure they are part of the program.
- Some blocks may have a special number field that needs to be changed to complete the activity. Click on the number and use the keyboard to enter the new value.
- Tap anywhere on the screen to save your progress.
Let’s create a project!
Now that you are familiar with these activities, it’s time to create your own project in ScratchJr. Try the following activity called “Driving the City”:
- Open the ScratchJr website and select the Drive City activity.
- Follow the given steps to create your project.
- Remember, the possibilities in ScratchJr are endless. Don’t limit your imagination!
