What is natural language processing?
NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It is the study of excellence and the techniques and skills used by successful therapists. NLP explores the connections between our neurology (brain) and linguistics (language) to understand how our communication patterns and strategies influence our behavior, both consciously and unconsciously.
The power of language in relationships
NLP teaches us that our speech patterns play an important role in how we communicate with others. We experience the world primarily through five senses: sight, hearing, kinaesthetics, taste, and smell (VAK). Different people have dominant senses, 60% is visual, 20% is auditory, and 20% is kinesthetic. By understanding a person’s dominant style, we can tailor our communication styles to build relationships and interact with them effectively.
Three Tips for Improving Family Relationships
Tip 1: Build Rapport
Building rapport is the foundation of effective communication in any relationship. In order to build a relationship, it’s crucial to match the other person’s body language, tone, and words. By mimicking their dominant language, we can quickly build rapport and create a strong connection.
Tip 2: Keep your promises
Communication, commitment and trust are key elements that should always be present in a relationship. In order to maintain a healthy relationship, it is important to keep our word and fulfill our commitments. Building trust is important, and breaking promises can lead to distrust. Taking responsibility for our decisions can help restore trust.
Tip 3: Move on and let go of the past
Sometimes relationships fail because of past issues and unresolved conflicts. In order to move forward, it is important to acknowledge and address the issues of the past. By using NLP techniques like “Future Pacing” we can imagine a successful future and chart a new path forward. This helps the subconscious believe in a positive outcome and motivates us to make decisions based on this vision.
The power of breathing and relaxation
Taking the time to consciously breathe deeply can have a profound impact on our health. Proper breathing calms the nerves, provides oxygen to the body, lowers blood pressure, relaxes muscles, and helps regulate a healthy nervous system. Breathing exercises are helpful during times of overwhelm and can help us calm down and wake up.
All in all, by using NLP techniques such as building relationships, keeping promises, and moving forward, we can improve our family relationships.
